Midway Reflection on TIC
For the past three weeks, Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays have been the days I’ve been most looking forward for. Even with the pain of waking up at 6 AM in the morning, these are the days I enjoy the most. When I was first applying for this class, I questioned if I would enjoy it or not. Now, I am glad I made the choice of taking this class. I’ve met so many new people who enjoy exploring and learning about technology just like me. For the first time, it seems like everyone in the class is engaged and excited to learn. TIC has given me an experience that I have never had before in my ten years of education.
During the nine classes, I’ve gained a lot of new knowledge on coding, websites, and the Internet itself. There has been difficult aspects of the class, as well as easy aspects. When we first started our Slack discussions, I was hesitant to share all my opinions about the topic and didn’t always know what to say. I wasn’t very used to using Slack and how the discussions worked either. However, as I got more used to the discussions, I became more involved and talkative in the chat room. However, I found the actual coding part of the class much easier, other than trying to fix mistakes in my code. Coming into the class, I expected coding to be really difficult. For, me deciding how to design and style a site is much more difficult. Another aspect I find difficult is memorizing the different elements and properties(although atom sometimes helps with that). However, I think that will become better in the following three weeks.
I’ve had many memorable memories in TIC, including our interesting demos and exercises where everyone seems to be cracking a couple jokes. I really enjoy how we are given flexibility with what we choose to do in our exercises, homework, and projects. It allows me to show more of my creativity and makes assignments more enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed designing a website for our first website. I enjoy having freedom to design a website about a fun topic. In school, we’re usually forced to follow strict guidelines and aren’t allowed much freedom. However, in TIC that isn’t a problem at all. I also enjoy talking and collaborating with my peers in assignments and in our Slack discussions. It’s fun to debate about interesting topics related to the Internet with other students and share our different opinions.
Overall, the first half of TIC was amazing and an experience that I’ve never had before. I’ve met so many new people with the same interests as me and learned so many new things. I am really looking forward to the next three weeks of TIC.
